  • Start with Splunk Fundamentals courses, which are often free and provide a strong foundation.

  • Progress to certifications like:

    • Splunk Core Certified User: Covers basic navigation and usage.

    • Splunk Core Certified Power User: Focuses on advanced searching and reporting.

    • Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin: Teaches you to manage Splunk environments.

    • Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect: For designing and deploying Splunk solutions. 

    • Splunk Core Certified Consultant : For Consultants.

Get Started with Splunk:-
 
Download the free Splunk Enterprise trial (available on Splunk’s website) or use Splunk Cloud’s free tier.
Set it up on your local machine or a virtual machine (e.g., using VirtualBox).
 
Learn Core Concepts:
  • Indexing: How Splunk stores data.
  • Searching: Master the Search Processing Language (SPL) for queries.
  • Dashboards: Create visualizations and reports.
  • Inputs: Configure data inputs (files, network sources, APIs).

 Splunk Fundamentals 1 (free on Splunk’s Education portal) covers basics like searching, reporting, and alerting.

 

Practice:
  • Ingest sample log files (e.g., Apache logs, system logs) and run searches.
  • Build a simple dashboard to monitor a mock environment.

Becoming a Splunk Engineer involves a mix of technical skills, hands-on experience, and an understanding of IT operations, Security, etc. 
 
  • Understand operating systems (Linux/Windows) since Splunk is deployed on these.
  • Get familiar with networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, DNS). 
  • Study basic system administration (logs, processes, file systems).
  • Understand regular expressions (regex) for parsing and searching data in Splunk.
  • Study how logs, metrics, and events work in IT systems.

Free courses on Linux (e.g., Linux Foundation on edX).
Networking fundamentals (e.g., Cisco’s Networking Academy).
